Omega was founded by Louis Brandt in 1848, in the small watchmaking town of La Chaux de Fonds.  Omega left a major mark on watchmaking by introducing the idea of a production caliber, rather than an individual movement for every case.  In fact, the name Omega is taken from their second caliber, and represented the culmination of their work.  Omega changed the watchmaking world again with the release of their Professional series watches in 1957: the Speedmaster, Seamaster, and Railmaster.  The Speedmaster went on to become the first watch flight qualified by NASA for space exploration and was the first watch worn on the moon!  Omega also has a long history with the Olympics, having been the timekeeper over 20 times.  Omega was also instrumental in developing some amazing technology like sub 1.0 second timing devices, the first touchpad timers, and the electronic starting gun!
