IWC is the fascinating story of a Swiss watch company, founded by an American, in the German region of the country. Florentine Aristo (FA) Jones founded IWC in 1868. He settled on Schaffhausen, north of Zurich near the German border. Essentially, it could not be further from the traditional watchmaking center of Geneva. Their commitment to simple to use, incredibly accurate timekeepers has been uninterrupted since that day. IWC has a history of innovation: the digital display Pallweber pocket watches, the "Portuguese" precision wristwatches using pocket watch movements, bi-directional winding system, and the first use of ceramic in a watch case.
