Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch - 'FOiS' (First Omega in Space) Reference 311. - 'Numbered Edition'

Sure, the Omega Speedmaster is the first watch worn on the Moon--But did you know the Omega Speedmaster was the first watch worn in space prior to landing on the moon--This watch Celebrates that feat!

Inspired by the Omega Speedmaster CK2998-4 worn by Astronaut Wally Schirra in outer space on the Mercury-Atlas 8 mission, this watch celebrates that historic event.

Numbered Edition = a rare and Auspicious honor bestowed upon very few Omega watches and even fewer Speedmaster models

  • Each watch is Individually Numbered on the solid caseback and features Seahorse Hippocampus along with the date (October 3rd, 1962) NASA astronaut Wally Schirra wore his Speedmaster model CK2998-4 on NASA’s Mercury-Atlas 8 mission.
  • Outfitted with Special oversized Speedmaster box set with Commemorative Plaque paying tribute to Wally Schirra and NASA’s Mercury-Atlas 8 mission

(As it turns out, this Omega Speedmaster FOiS shares more similarities with the CK2998-4 Speedmaster model than the Speedmaster that was later worn on the moon.)  For that reason, Omega created a limited edition identifying Wally's personally owned (and personally purchased 3-months prior to the mission) watch and giving due credit....

The FOis was released in 2012,  officially discontinued in 2020 and completely sold out. Here is what makes it the Perfect Speedy...

  • 40mm case size--perfect For those in-betweeners’ wanting a more sensibly sized case - larger than the more contemporary styled 38 Speedmaster Reduced and smaller than the traditional 42mm moon watch
  • 1861 Manually wound movement (based on 861 movement)-for those who crave the historical relevance of a manually wound movement (a pre-requisite for any Moonwatch aficionado)
  • Sapphire Crystal-for those who appreciate the durability of a scratch resistance sapphire crystal, a feature that was not available On the standard 42 Speedmaster Moonwatch until only recently.

Living Time-Capsule-100% Complete with everything as purchased new from Omega dealer including:

  • Original Omega Thematic First Omega in Space oversized presentation box set with special commemorative plaque (triple box set with inner/outer and protective cardboard box)
  • original Omega Warranty Card and Pictograms Card (both serialized and matching to watch), Original Omega Instruction Book
  • 2 Straps with 2 Buckles:  Fitted to Omega perforated leather sport strap with Omega tang Buckle (as pictured) - This is what should have been fitted to the watch from the factory (Note-this is in addition to the original factory fitted Tan Omega speedmaster strap with buckle)
