Most people don't realize the Rolex SMURF Submariner was not just made in 18k white gold. In fact for a brief period of time after its original release, the Rolex SMURF Submariner was also available in 18k yellow gold. So Called SMURF Submariner for its unmistakable and eye catching FLAT Blue (touch of lilac) Dial and matching bezel. The 18k Yellow Gold Version was nicknamed the 'Papa Smurf' for its rarity and limited production, made for only a couple years (if that)! Subsequent Yellow Gold Submariner models would lose the Smurf dial and feature a starburst or more translucent blue dial. These dials (and matching bezels) lacked the lilac undertones and unmistakable look of the original SMURF submariners.
