history of the Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea 44mm Model:
Rolex DeepSea Ref 126660 is the 2nd generation of the Deepsea and was discontinued as of March 2022 after being made for less than 5 production years. Many people complained the original Deepsea ref 116660 was top heavy and uncomfortable because the bracelet was not wide enough to support the oversized 44mm watch case. To remedy that, the 126660 2nd Generation Deepsea model was released and featured significantly narrower lugs which allowed for a 2mm wider bracelet. General consensus was that the wider bracelet definitely made the watch less top heavy and more wearable. The new 3rd Generation Deepsea, Ref 136660 was released in very limited quanities only within the last month or so and is in very short supply. In the newest and most recently released 3rd generation Deepsea, Ref 136660, Rolex slimmed down the bezel to feature a chamfered sapphire crystal and The date window has been upsized by eight percent for greater legibility. The solid titanium caseback remains unchanged but it has now been renamed ‘RLX titanium.’ Additionally, Rolex says that the chroma light display has been optimized and the Fliplock divers extension is no longer available on this newest Deepsea model.
With the discontinuing of the 2nd Generation Deepsea Ref 126660, It would appear the Rolex Deepsea 126660 was made for a significantly shorter production period (around 5 years) versus the original 116660 which was made for around 7 production years. That could make the 2nd Generation 126660 Deepsea among the most rare of the Deepsea models but only time will tell! Pick up this one before prices peak once word is out that this model is now discontinued!
