You are viewing a very rare and special Patek Philippe Ref 5100-J Manta Ray 10-Days Power Reserve released as a limited edition watch to celebrate the new millenium, Year 2000 and what Patek calls their '3rd Millennium' (of producing fine timepieces.) To commemorate the new millenium, Patek released this watch with one of the most detailed, exhaustive and ornate presentation sets of any Patek ever released. This particular example is quite possibly, THE MOST COMPLETE EXAMPLE OF THIS WATCH YOU WILL EVER SEE. Complete to the tiniest detail including the original Patek Philippe 3rd Millennium Coin/Plexiglass display set, double serialized hang tags and even the little metal CoSC medallion!!! All the little toys and accoutrements are included. If that wasn't enough, this watch comes with 3 different Patek Philippe certificates all of which are serialized and matching to this watch. These special certificates include:
#1. original Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin - appropriately signed by Authorized dealer and filled in with original buyers details (note original owner used white-out to conceal original owners details-see pics of actual certificate)
#2. Special Chronometre Certificate from CoSC authority, includes special metal medallion - this was originally attached to the watch but has since been cut off the watch and stored with the box set
#3. Special Patek Philippe '3rd Millenium' Attestation Certificate with accompanying '3rd Millennium' Commemorative Coin (includes Plexiglass display stand-very cool conversation piece to display on desktop)
Accompanying this watch is an original Patek Philippe hardcover book explaining the design and technical details used to produce this groundbreaking 10-days power reserve movement.Patek Philippe even created a new design for its presentation box for this watch, appropriately stamped with Patek Philippe Year 2000 logo on the top, the box set is an upright design so you open the box sort of like a display case and the watch is just staring at you. (please note, the interior leather liner on the inside of the box has become hard and cracked and is flaking which unfortunately is an all too common occurrence with this box set--all pictures are of actual box set)This watch represents a piece of Patek Philippe History - a watch that Patek Philippe Designed and released to commemorate and welcome the new millenia. This was the ONLY watch Patek released in 1999 as a new Millenium watch. This watch is ground breaking from a horological perspective because the Patek 5100 represents the first production made 10-days power reserve movement that is accurate to within CoSC timekeeping standards, an horological feat that as of the release of this watch no other manufacture was able to master. For that reason, Patek chose to have this watch CoSc certified which is an absolute rarity and 1-off to my knowledge. This ref 5100 was the first modern Patek model released with the radical and ground breaking Manta Ray design aesthetic. A close relative of the Gondolo design and even still referred to as a Gondolo case by many for its rectangular shape, The Manta Ray case was a nod to the original Patek Philippe Ref 2554 released in the 1950's. The 2554 was produced in very limited quantities and then shelved until the release of the 5100. One look at the ref 2554 and you can see where the design inspiration for the 5100 came from, but that's where the similarities end. The 5100 Manta Ray case is oversized with a 46mm lug to lug measurement, a 34mm width across its widest part and a 20mm lug width strap. What is so remarkable about this case design are the compound curves that are both concave and teardrop shaped along with the cambered sapphire crystal. This shape and size proves especially versatile and comfortable for all wrist sizes and shapes. Of particular note about this case design is that the movement was literally built in-house by Patek to fit the case, rather than the other way around. This proved technically much more challenging but one look at the caseback and you can see the result of a perfect design, case fitment and expertly applied finishes that were executed with much care and detail. Own a piece of Patek Philippe History with this ultra rare and mega complete Patek Philippe 5100-J 10 Days Power Reserve in 18k yellow gold. If you have never tried on a Manta Ray case, you are in for a serious threat!
