The PAM 350 aka 'Lo Scienziato' (translated from Italian, 'the Scientist') was released as a Novelty at the 2010 SIHH To mark the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s first celestial observations. The Italian physicist/mathematician/astronomer/philosopher was a perfect fit for tribute by Panerai for his Tuscan origins and love for science and innovation.

At first glance, the PAM350's most defining characteristic is its refined and total skeleton structure reinforced with what looks like a fine mesh. The real focal point of the PAM350 Lo Scienziato is the Gyroscopic Tourbillon between 10 and 11:00 which appears to be suspended in mid-air or at least in its own little bubble within the watch. As it spins, it appears to jump out at you and is equally as fun to just stare at and watch for a few mesmerizing minutes.

The 48mm Ceramic case gives the watch the perfect weight and wrist presence; large and solid but not clunky or bulky. The 48 mm diameter case (water-resistant to 100m), is made of a zirconium oxide ceramic, an exceptionally hard, corrosion- resistant material aka Ceramica that is processed into a single block and then sculpted into its Radiomir case. The end result is a matte finish ceramic that has ridiculously extreme hardness (up to five times greater than steel) which means no scratches unless you bang it into a doorknob!

Powered by P.2005/S movement--This is a hand-wound movement with 144 hour/6 Day Power Reserve. This is Panerai's in-house 'manufattura' Tourbillon movement with a seconds and tourbillon indicator at 9 o'clock, GMT dial at 9:00 w AM/PM indicator (for the 3rd GMT hand) and Tourbillon Indicator at 3:00 sub dial. The Tourbillon indicator at 3:00 travels twice as quickly as the seconds hand (located at 9:00) because it moves at the speed of the tourbillon cage.
