The Story Behind This Panerai:

This is an indistinguishable from new Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 days (Manual Winding).  It is a Q-series that was purchased in April 2015 and rarely if ever worn.  the PAM 514 features a well proportioned 47mm steel Radiomir 1940 case.  The Radiomir 1940 is essentially a hybrid design between the Radiomir case and the Luminor 1950 case.  It combines the traditional Radiomir cushion shaped case with a few updates--namely:

#1.  Wire lugs replaced with solid lugs for a more solid feel (and significantly easier/less messy strap changes - 26mm Lug Width

#2.  Oversized screw-down winding crown.  In this Radiomir 1940, the onion shaped winding crown (typically found on Radiomir models) has been replaced with a generously sized barrel shaped winding crown.  This style winding crown was inspired by the crown on the original Brevet style winding crown of the Big Crown James Bond military subs.  (Think large and easy to set/wind thanks to no obstructions like crown protectors or shoulders on either side of the crown to get in the way!)   The reason this is called a Radiomir 1940 is because first and foremost, this watch is absent the traditional Panerai crown protector device--Remember that wasn't invented until 1950!

It should be mentioned this watch features the traditional and vintage looking sandwich dial.  The aged patina inspired Superluminova is put on a disc that is then covered by the matte black dial with stenciled number cut outs to allow the Superluminova to charge and glow.

The caseback is a sapphire crystal exhibition back, which gives a clear and unobstructed view of the in-house Panerai P.3000 movement with 3 days of power reserve.

The 1940 case feels like a perfect mix between the Radiomir and the Luminor and is amazingly versatile as a sport watch or a more conservative dress watch, depending on your mood and what strap you outfit it with.
