Peruvian Air Force Limited Edition

'Show-Quality' Alpha Hands
This particular 2998-6 Speedmaster features radium filled ‘Alpha Hands’ evolved from the original Broad Arrow hands and were very short lived. The Alpha Hands are in near perfect condition--no cracks or chips in the radium filled hands and a nice even matching patina to the radium filled hands and hour indexes. Alpha Hand Speedmaster models have proved to be very desirable to collectors looking to own a piece of Omega Speedmaster history and this watch is a showpiece for these hands!
The First Watch Worn in Space
The 2998 Speedmaster was produced from the late 1950’s to the early 1960’s and in 8 different versions. The 2998-6 Speedmaster was the Omega watch that astronaut Wally Shirra wore as his everyday timepiece. Purchased for personal use (before his lunar orbit) and with no connection to NASA, Shirra coincidentally wore the Speedmaster 2998-6 in his orbit of the Moon, thus earning the Omega Speedmaster the (pre-moon landing) moniker, ‘The First Watch worn in Space.’
