Vintage Rolex Daytona with ultra-rare "Rolex Cosmograph Daytona" dial printing and Mille Ligne Screw Down Pushers
Reference - 6240
The Story Behind This Rolex 6240
The Rolex 6240 is among is rarest Daytona references ever produced. Rarer than the 6239 and 6263, the 6240 was the first Daytona to use an Oyster case. This watch is truly the heritage inspiration for the current Daytona (116500) with a Panda-style (light colored dial with dark contrasting sub-dials) and a black bakelite Mk1 bezel insert. This is a Big Eye dial (named for the larger sub dials) and features a non-underlined T-Swiss-T stamp at 6 o'clock. It has the "small" Daytona" stamping (as opposed to the "big" Daytona stamp that would extend across the word Cosmograph) and lacks the "Oyster" stamp, making it the rarer dial configuration. The rarity continues with the original Mk0 "mille ligne" pushers, with straight, engraved vertical lines for additional grip when turning. These differ significantly from the current models which feature fluted pushers similar to the crown. It also includes its original Rolex Oyster bracelet, which is simply rare because of how the bracelets were constructed during those days. Most examples of this watch did not survive with both the Mk1 bezel and the Mk0 pushers, so act now if you want to own this amazing piece of Rolex and Daytona history!
